Deformation Constraints in a Mass Spring Model to Describe Rigid Cloth Behavior

چکیده
This paper describes a physically based model for animating cloth objects derived from elastically de formable models and improved in order to take into account the non elastic properties of woven fabrics A cloth object is rst approximated to a deformable surface composed of a network of masses and springs the movement of which is evaluated using the numer ical integration of the fundamental law of dynamics We show that when a concentration of high stresses occurs in a small region of the surface the local de formation becomes unrealistic compared to real de formations of textiles With such an elastic model the only solution to decrease these deformations has been so far to increase the sti ness of the deformed springs but we show that it dramatically increases the cost of the algorithm We present therefore a new method to adapt our model to the particularly sti properties of textiles inspired from dynamic in verse procedures R esum e Cet article d ecrit un mod ele physique d animation des tissus variante des mod eles elastiques d eforma bles et am elior e de fa con a prendre en compte les propri et es non elastiques des textiles Nous mod e lisons tout d abord une pi ece de tissu par une sur face d eformable constitu ee d un r eseau de masses et de ressorts Son mouvement est evalu e gr ace a l int egration num erique de la loi fondamentale de la dynamique Nous montrons que lorsqu une forte concentration de contraintes appara t a certains en droits de la surface la d eformation locale y de vient irr ealiste compar ee aux d eformations rencon tr ees dans les tissus r eels Avec un tel mod ele elas tique la seule solution permettant d att enuer cette d eformation etait jusqu a pr esent d augmenter la raideur des ressorts d eform es mais nous montrons que ceci faisait cro tre dramatiquement le co ut de l algorithme Nous pr esentons donc ici une nou velle m ethode permettant d adapter notre mod ele aux propri et es particuli erement rigides des textiles inspir ee des proc edures de dynamique inverse

Interactive Animation of Cloth Including Self Collision Detection
We describe a system for interactive animation of cloth, which can be used in e-commerce applications, games or even in virtual prototyping systems. In order not to restrict the shape of the cloth we use a triangulated mesh, which serves as basis of a mass-spring system. For the animation of the particles internal and external forces are considered. Since cloth is a very rigid material when str...
متن کاملA framework for interactive and physically realistic cloth simulation
1. Abstract Cloth simulation is an important research area in the field of deformable object modelling in computer graphics. Deformable objects allow much greater realism to be achieved in graphically generated scenes. However, in interactive environments rigid bodies usually dominate due to their computational efficiency. Cloth simulation addresses many issues in computer graphics such as defo...
متن کاملLarge Amplitude Vibration Analysis of Graphene Sheets as Resonant Mass Sensors Using Mixed Pseudo-Spectral and Integral Quadrature Methods
The present paper investigates the potential application of graphene sheets with attached nanoparticles as resonant sensors by introducing a nonlocal shear deformation plate model. To take into account an elastic connection between the nanoplate and the attached nanoparticle, the nanoparticle is considered as a mass-spring system. Then, a combination of pseudo-spectral and integral quadrature m...
متن کاملAnalytical Spring-Mass Model of Impact Behavior of Double-Walled Carbon Nanotubes
In this study, an impact behavior of spherical striker on a double-walled carbon nanotube (DWCNT) is presented based on a three degree of freedom spring-mass model and the finite element (FE) simulations. The semi-analytical solution of the transverse impact of a striker on a DWCNT is investigated by using the elasticity nonlocal theory of Euler-Bernoulli (EBT) and Timoshenko (TBT) nanobeams. T...
متن کاملPlausible cloth animation using dynamic bending model
Simulating the mechanical behavior of a cloth is a very challenging and important problem in computer animation. The models of bending in most existing cloth simulation approaches are taking the assumption that the cloth is little deformed from a plate shape. Therefore, based on the thin-plate theory, these bending models do not consider the condition that the current shape of the cloth under l...
متن کاملComparison Final Velocity for Land Yacht with a Rigid Wing and Cloth Sail
The powering requirement of a land yacht is one of the most important aspects of its design. In this respect the wind tunnel testing is an effective design tool. In fact, changing the parameters of the vehicle and testing the changes in the wind tunnel will give us a better understanding of the most efficient vehicle, and yet it is time consuming, expensive, and has inherent scaling errors. Ano...
